Mrs Patalano basically teaches to the bell. I have asked her about it once and she basically feels that it has worked well for her. She does however set up the homework at the end of class when it assigned.
Reflections:
I feel that Mrs. Patalano's method of teaching to the bell is not necessarily the most effect practice. I am going to attempt to break my class into an opening, main activity, and closing. I feel that this short period of time at the end of class will allow the student to shift gears and reflect on the material taught instead of runnig out the door and "purging" for the next class. I think to assist me in this I would set a five minute warning for myself on my computer or phone that will alert me to start my closing activity. A cell phone in the pocket vibrating should work. I see my closing activity being a quiz or discusion or a problem that will be part of their homework assignment which in my mind would give them insentive to do it inclass instead of at home.
